Women Educating and Promoting Beef
Hernando County originally started with a group of women called the CowBells back in 1976, focusing on supplying beef information and samples to the community. The ladies tried to make an impact in our county but do to times and other reasons, they had to close the program down. With the help of a couple originals and new members, Hernando County Cattlewomen was reborn back into the community in 2018.
We are a non-profit 501c3 organization and our mission is to educate and promote the safety and nutritional value of the beef industry to the public at large, in cooperation with county, state and national level cattlemen and cattlewomen organizations throughout the United States. The mission would include the education of the ranch lifestyle, history and the impact that ranches have had in the promotion of a healthy environment. We also encourage our local youth to find the love for Beef and Agriculture, leaving a legacy for the future generations to come, and sharing camaraderie with like minded women.
In the short few years we have been reassembled, our group of women have defied the odds and raised a tremendous amount of money that is then distributed back to the community and youth of Hernando County. Through our fundraising efforts we are able to gift an annual $1000 college scholarship to a youth pursuing agricultural fields, and we have gifted add-ons to all of our local fair steer exhibitors as well as awards to the outstanding exhibitors in both the 4-H and FFA programs. We have introduced our Beef Grants, which is another opportunity for the youth to compete for a $500 grant to go towards raising their beef projects. We have also started a clinic series to focus on show cattle and getting the youth as much help and information as we can. There is more about the clinic series on our Events page. We routinely give back to women's shelters throughout Hernando to supply a lending hand.
We have also attended both local and state Florida Cattlewomen events to pass out beef samples and literature to the public and had reading and agriculture demonstrations at our local elementary schools.
We hope that our efforts will increase and expand with an increase in membership and events.
